WHAT

A participatory arts & oral history project that encourages people to explore the heritage of Brixton, inspired by unique film footage shot between the 1960's and 1980's by Clovis Salmon "Sam The Wheels", a Jamaican who arrived in London in the 1950's. www.samthewheels.co.uk

An edit of Sam's films will be shown at the Urban Green Fair on Sept 20th September 2009 @ 3pm in the Solar Cinema.

Clovis Salmon AKA Sam the Wheels has seen many wonderful things
through his camera come and join writer Michael McMillan for an
evening of relaxed conversation and music with Sam and friends.

11th Feb 7-9pm. Discussion evening 2009
With more government control over our lives and our means to express
ourselves politically, where are the new spaces of resistance? A round
table discussion where artists, writers, young people and political
activists come together to discuss this issue.

Clovis is a 78 year old ex Pentecostal minister, locally known as "Sam The Wheel", due to to his work building wheels at Holdsworth Cycles.

During workshops with local people, youth groups and senior citizens, a series of short films were produced, incorporating contemporary oral histories and footage provided by Clovis and others.
